The San Juan Bautista church in Arucas makes a huge impression at first sight – it looks very majestic. Unfortunately, it’s surrounded by buildings on all sides, which makes it difficult to fully appreciate its scale and grandeur. Built from dark basalt in a neo-Gothic style, it creates a very unique and slightly dramatic atmosphere. The interior is just as impressive – with beautiful stained glass windows, an organ, chandeliers, and richly decorated statues of saints in every nave. Soft church music plays in the background, which enhances the overall atmosphere even more. Personally, I think it’s well worth visiting – even more so than the cathedral in Las Palmas. As of June 2026, the entrance fee was around €5 per person.
Lovely little village tucked away, with a huge church. I didn't have time to go in the church as i chose to look around the town. Id have loved to go in though. ( Church five euros entry). I also love the Pride banners along the streets. Spain has one of the safest environments for LGBTQ. Well done 👍
It was shut today Thursday 30th April at 14:30. Do fouble check opening times. Car parking a nightmare as the main huge car park beside the Bascillica was being dug up! Well worth a visit when open!
Beautiful church which is not as old as you think. The stained glass windows are amazing. There are many statues of saints and Jesus. You can also go up to the second floor to see the rest of holy statues. You get an amazing view of the stained glass windows from close on the second floor too which was a really rare.
Wonderful and enormous iglesia! Mind you: it only opens at 4 pm. So go in the afternoon when you want to see this pretty church from the inside
