A Striking Natural Landmark That Rewards the Effort — 5/5 The Maspalomas Dunes are one of Gran Canaria’s most impressive natural attractions and are well worth visiting during a stay in the south of the island. Reaching the dunes can involve a fairly long walk, particularly depending on where you enter and how far you choose to explore. The heat, soft sand and lack of shade can make the journey more tiring than expected, so comfortable footwear, water and sun protection are essential. However, the effort is rewarded by a remarkable landscape. The vast stretches of golden sand, changing dune formations and open views create an atmosphere that feels peaceful and far removed from the nearby resorts. The contrast between the dunes, the ocean and the surrounding scenery makes the area especially memorable. It is an excellent place for walking, photography or simply taking time to appreciate the landscape. Visiting earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon may provide a more comfortable experience and softer light, while also avoiding the strongest midday heat. Overall, Maspalomas Dunes are a long walk, but unquestionably worth it. The scenery is distinctive, dramatic and one of the highlights of Gran Canaria.

Beautiful! This was so much fun, amazing place to photograph if you love photography. Beautiful sunset. Very warm! Be careful with the heat and bring water , sunscreen and a hat if you want to hike along the dunes. It's also difficult to wear shoes so bring slippers and sneakers !

The Maspalomas sand dunes were interesting to visit, although not quite what I expected. Having seen the Sahara before, this felt more like a mini version — but still unique in its own way, especially being located right next to the beach. It’s also an ecological site, which makes it more than just a scenic spot. There’s lots of nature around and even some rare birds, which was lovely to see and added to the experience. The landscape itself is beautiful and peaceful, with the dunes creating a stunning backdrop against the mountains. You’ll definitely want to take pictures here — it’s a must-see spot in Gran Canaria and perfect for photos. You don’t need a long time there — it’s more of a short visit or stop-off rather than a full-day activity — but definitely worth seeing at least once while you’re in the area.

The Maspalomas Dunes are a stunning 400-hectare nature reserve on the southern coast of Gran Canaria, Spain. This unique coastal "desert" features rolling golden sand dunes, a saltwater lagoon (La Charca), and a palm grove. The Maspalomas Dunes are definitely a must see when visiting Gran Canaria. The landscape is unique and gives you the feeling of being in a desert right next to the ocean. Sunset is probably the best time to visit, as the light and colors over the dunes are stunning, but it is also worth experiencing during the day. Walking across the dunes down to the beach is a great activity and allows you to enjoy both the views and the natural surroundings. It’s a good idea to bring water and comfortable shoes, as the sand can get hot and the walk can be longer than expected.

Beautiful, big dunes - the biggest I've seen! They offer great views and a good fun workout running up and down the dunes. Not crowded at all. I made the effort to go there for sunrise which despite it being cloudy, the vibes were right. A couple even got engaged on the dune nearby! Super cute!
